The stats are simply amazing.

In a 7-0 victory over Mayer Lutheran last week, Brandt, a junior, struck out the first 20 batters she faced. The 21st — and last – batter she faced managed to make enough contact to dribble the ball back toward Brandt, who moved in, picked it up and threw to first to complete a 7-0 perfect game.

"My pitches were working and I had unbelievable confidence," Brandt said. "I've got such a great team behind me that I feel like I can do anything."

Brandt also threw an 11-strikeout one-hitter to beat Jordan 2-0 and fanned nine Norwood-Young America batters in a 2-1 victory.

That run scored against her was the only one she's allowed this season, and it was unearned.

"It's almost unfair," said her coach, Eric Lewis.

Brandt's skills have not gone unnoticed by some important eyes. Gophers coach Jessica Allister extended a scholarship offer to her last fall, which she accepted.

"I'm looking forward to it," Brandt said. "When I went there, it was one of those situations you hear about where is just felt like a perfect fit. It felt like home."

For the near future, however, Brandt has more pressing matters. Her primary goal is to get the Giants back to the Class 2A championship game, where they lost to Kasson-Mantorville in 2014.

"Our team has so much potential and we come together so well," she said. "I think we're very prepared to get back to that same position."

Holy Family track and field

It was an eventful week for the senior hurdler. She won the 100- and 300-meter hurdles in a meet April 13, signed to run for North Dakota on Wednesday, and again swept both events at the Hutchinson Invite on Thursday.

Bloomington Jefferson lacrosse

The senior midfielder was a force on offense and defense in the Jaguars' first three games, all victories. He scored 11 goals, second most in the state, and routinely frustrated opponents with his ability to strip the ball.

SYDNEY FUNK

Eagan lacrosse

The senior midfielder went on a scoring spree in the Wildcats' first two games. She had five goals and four assists in a 19-3 rout of Minneapolis and followed up with six goals and two assists in a 14-12 victory over Coon Rapids.

Cretin-Derham Hall baseball

The junior catcher caught 16 innings of baseball last week without making a defensive mistake or allowing a passed ball. He also hit .667 (6-for-9) in three games and is hitting .706, with a .762 on-base percentage and a .941 slugging percentage, this season.

CARALINE SLATTERY

Lakeville South track and field

At the Farmington Invitational on Thursday, Slattery won the high jump with a state-best leap of 5-7, the 300 hurdles (45.08 seconds), the triple jump (34-11.5) and the 100 hurdles (15.77). Slattery will run for the University of Kansas next season.

Minnehaha Academy track and field

Minnehaha Academy was the smallest school at Saturday's Lakeville North Mega-Meet, but the Redhawks won the boys' championship, thanks to victories by Webb in the 100 meters (10.99), 200 (21.95) and 400 (50.03).
