The Edina girls' tennis team begins its quest for its 18th consecutive state championship in the section playoffs this week.

Edina, No. 1 in Class 2A, is one of four top-10 teams in Section 6, with No. 4 Blake, No. 5 Wayzata and No. 6 Benilde-St. Margaret's.

Coaches will seed the section Tuesday. The first round is Wednesday.

The Hornets' title streak is the longest in the nation.

Last game at Midway Stadium

On Friday, St. Agnes and New Life Academy will play the final high school football game at Midway Stadium.

St. Agnes football (and baseball) has called Midway home since 1981.

Football arriving early

Eden Prairie, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A, puts its 22-game winning streak on the line when it plays host to Lake Conference rival Minnetonka, on Thursday.

Also on Thursday, DeLaSalle, ranked No. 2 in Class 4A behind Hutchinson, plays at Benilde-St. Margaret's.

Final week of soccer regular season

The final week of the soccer regular season has several noteworthy matchups.

In boys' soccer, Lake Conference rivals Wayzata, No. 5 in Class 2A, and Minnetonka, No. 1 in Class 2A, meet Thursday in Minnetonka. Saturday, Minneapolis Washburn, No. 1 in Class 1A, will play host to Rochester Lourdes.

In girls' soccer, Eastview, No. 2 in Class 2A, will be tested twice in three days. On Tuesday, the Lightning travels to No. 9 Lakeville North. On Thursday, the Lightning plays at No. 5 Prior Lake.

In Class 1A, No. 7 Blake will play at top-ranked Minneapolis Washburn on Thursday.

Volleyball powers to meet

Highlighting the volleyball schedule this week is a match on Thursday, between Eden Prairie, No. 1 in Class 3A, and host Hopkins, ranked No. 4.
