Former Apple Valley High School wrestler Dayton Racer, who had abruptly tried to wrestle for a new school, will not be wrestling in section competition this weekend.

The defending state 3A champion wrestler had left Apple Valley and on Feb. 10 enrolled at Wheaton High School, a 140-student high school in western Minnesota. His attempt to qualify for the Section 6 individual wrestling matches in Wadena this weekend had left officials at both schools, along with the Minnesota State High School League, struggling with Racer's last-minute attempt to qualify under the state's transfer and eligibility rules.

When Racer left Apple Valley, his family accused parents of other wrestlers at the perennial state champion wrestling program of driving him from the school out of jealousy over Racer's success. Apple Valley principal Steve Degenaar said the school had been investigating several issues regarding Racer, but declined to elaborate.

Though Wheaton High School principal Russell Armstrong on Wednesday declined comment on whether Racer would wrestle for his new school, Section 6A manager Steve Techam said Wheaton had not placed Racer on its seeding list for the weekend matches.
