Visitation close to first state trip

CLASS 2A

SECTION 4: Visitation's dream of reaching its first state softball tournament in school history is still alive. Senior Anne Debertin and junior Paige Scobee each hit two-run homers, leading the Blazers to an 11-2 victory over Minnehaha Academy in the final game of the losers' bracket on Saturday in Mendota Heights. Freshman Sarah Otto added two hits and scored two runs for the Blazers. Winning pitcher sophomore Kierstin Anderson Glass struck out nine. Senior Grace DuBois hit a two-run homer for Minnehaha Academy. The Blazers advanced to the championship against St. Anthony on Tuesday in the double-elimination tournament. Visitation lost to St. Anthony 2-1 earlier in section play.

Armstrong scratches for winning run

CLASS 3A

SECTION 6: Senior Jacob Edstrom singled home senior Nick Malmgren with two outs in the bottom of seventh inning, giving Armstrong a 3-2 victory Holy Angels in the first round. Malmgren reached on an error and stole second base, setting the stage for Edstrom's game-winning hit.

CLASS 2A

SECTION 4: Seniors Eric Madryga and Eamonn Manion each had two hits and combined for five RBI as Minnehaha Academy shut out St. Paul Humboldt 15-1 in the opening round. Madryga drove in three runs and Manion two.

CLASS 1A

SECTION 4: Senior David Kraskey threw a two-hitter and had 12 strikeouts, leading Legacy Christian to a 6-1 victory over North Lakes Academy in a first-round matchup. Junior Tanner Balk hit a home run while eighth-grader Josh Peterson went 3-for-4 to lead the Lions' offensive attack.
