BASEBALL

Raiders win 6th in a row

• CRETIN-DERHAM HALL 4, STILLWATER 3: With the Ponies threatening to draw even at the top of the Suburban East standings, the Raiders got a two-run double to tie the score in the bottom of the fifth inning Friday and the eventual game-winner an inning later on Jacob Esch's fielder's choice that scored Jon Kinsel. Cretin-Derham Hall won its sixth game in a row and its 12th the past 13 games -- avenging the one loss it had to Stillwater in the process.

• BELLE PLAINE 12, LE CENTER-CLEVELAND 2 (5 INNINGS): Sophomore Travis Latzke hit an inside-the-park grand slam in the second inning, and Tigers pitcher Dylan Nyberg allowed only two infield hits while striking out nine in five innings for the win.

• CAMBRIDGE-ISANTI 5, CHISAGO LAKES 4: Tyler Swanson hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth, lifting the Bluejackets over the Wildcats. Winning pitcher Joe Ramberg worked all nine innings, striking out 19.

• EAGAN 8, GRAND RAPIDS 7: Senior Jack Welchlin pitched 1 2/3 innings of no-hit relief, setting the stage for Nick Nietz's heroics. The junior laced a two-out single with runners on first and second base in the bottom of the seventh inning for the game-winning RBI, his third of the contest, to give Welchlin the win.

• HOLY ANGELS 7, SHAKOPEE 2: The Stars clinched the Missota Conference championship with a victory over the Sabers. Holy Angels scored four in the top of the first and added two in the seventh. Holy Angels pitcher Joe Loftus pitched a complete-game six-hitter with seven strikeouts for Holy Angels. Loftus had an RBI double in the first.

• HOPKINS 9, WAYZATA 7: Matt Rowley's two-run double highlighted Hopkins' four-run comeback in the bottom of the sixth as the Royals beat the Trojans in the Classic Lake and won their third consecutive conference title.

• PARK 7, HASTINGS 0: The Wolfpack hit three homers and got a shutout in a rout of the Raiders. Juniors J.C. Burrell and Ben Bundschu both hit two-run homers and senior Dan Ubl added a solo shot for Park. Junior Jose Gonzalez pitched a four-hitter, struck out 10 and walked one for the win. Hastings lost its fourth consecutive game.

• north St. Paul 3, South St. Paul 2: Senior Tom Horner broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double to help the Polars win for the third time in their past four games.

SOFTBALL

Osseo's Girven fans 18

• OSSEO 1, COON RAPIDS 0: Orioles pitcher Becca Girven upped her strikeout total to 211 for the season, striking out 18 Cardinals to earn the victory. She allowed two hits and didn't walk a batter. Osseo got the lone run in the battle of the birds when Kasi LaHaye reached base on an error in the bottom of the fourth inning and scored from third when the Cardinals attempted to throw out a runner stealing second base.

• FOREST LAKE 3, MINNETONKA 0: Junior Cheree Franklin pitched a five-hit shutout and struck out six as the Rangers won for the sixth time in their past seven games. Senior Kathy Crudo went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run scored, while sophomore Alexi Alm chipped in with a solo home run for Forest Lake's final run in the sixth inning.

• WACONIA 7, DELANO 6 (8 INNINGS): Eighth-grader Sami Schnyder went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and followed Jenna Lester's leadoff double in the bottom of the eighth inning with a game-winning single.
