Minnetonka topples top-ranked Wayzata• MINNETONKA 3, WAYZATA 1: The Class 2A, No. 5 Skippers' defense clamped down and shocked a Wayzata crowd Thursday night by outshooting and outscoring the 2A, No. 1 Trojans. Minnetonka got the offense rolling quickly in the first period with goals from Max Coatta and Austin Burt. Wayzata's Matthew Freytag cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second period, but the Skippers scored on an empty-net goal late in the game to seal the victory. Paul Ciaccio stopped 21 shots for Minnetonka, now 3-0 in Lake Conference play.

• HILL-MURRAY 3, ST. THOMAS ACADEMY 1: The Pioneers knocked off the visiting Cadets, handing 1A, No. 1 St. Thomas Academy its first Classic Suburban loss of the year. Hill-Murray chipped away at the Cadets' defense, adding a goal each period and keeping the puck away from the Pioneers' net. Goalie John Dugas of the Pioneers had a shutout until a last-second, shorthanded goal by Henry Hart of the Cadets. Hill-Murray improved its conference record to 6-1.

• HASTINGS 3, WHITE BEAR LAKE 2: Two early second-period goals gave the Raiders all the momentum they needed in their close victory over Suburban East foe White Bear Lake. Mark Huneke, Matt Koch and Blake Berg each scored for Hastings while sophomore goalie Matt Radke stopped 16 shots.

• WOODBURY 4, STILLWATER 0: The Royals tallied four goals en route to a shutout victory over Stillwater, but it didn't come easy. Woodbury goalie Evan Broadbent stopped 48 shots in his team's first conference victory of the year. The Royals were outshot 48-25.

• CENTENNIAL 5, MAPLE GROVE 4: A late-game comeback by the Crimson fell short against the Cougars' multi-faceted offense. Five different players scored for Centennial, which continues to move up in the Northwest Suburban Conference. Maple Grove, beset by off-ice issues, has lost two of its past three games.

• ST. MICHAEL-ALBERTVILLE 5, BUFFALO 3: The Bison matched the Knights goal for goal in a busy second period, but couldn't find answers for early and late goals from St. Michael- Albertville. Connor Spetz scored twice for the Knights, who continue to vie for the top spot in the Mississippi 8.

GIRLS' HOCKEY

Burnsville dominates to shut out Rosemount• BURNSVILLE 4, ROSEMOUNT 0: Blaze goalie Lauren Bench didn't have the most exciting night in net, facing only 11 shots in her team's lopsided victory over the Irish. Briita Nelson scored twice for the Blaze, who improved to 6-6-2 in conference play.

• MINNETONKA 8, CENTENNIAL 0: The Class 2A, No. 3 Skippers turned an impressive victory into a rout with five late-game goals. Presley Norby, Amy Petersen and Laura Bowman each scored twice for the Skippers, who improved to 16-4 overall. Centennial only managed six shots on Minnetonka goalie Hannah Ehresmann.

BOYS' BASKETBALL

Champlin Park tops pesky Spring Lake Park• CHAMPLIN PARK 75, SPRING LAKE PARK 72: An offensive rebound in the final seconds sealed the victory for the Rebels, giving them their 11th victory of the season. The Rebels led for much of the game, but couldn't pull away because of Spring Lake Park's outside shooting. Gary Cook finished with a game-high 25 points for the Panthers, who add a rare loss to their record. Brennan Witt led Champlin Park with 20 points.

• EASTVIEW 57, BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY 54: The Lightning relied on steady hands at the free-throw line in their slim victory over rival Kennedy. Junior guard Mark Dwyer had 18 points and Ben Oberfeld 16 for Eastview. Jumah'ri Turner led all scorers with 22 points for the Eagles.

• SOUTHWEST CHRISTIAN 55, MARANATHA CHRISTIAN 53: Southwest Christian treated their home crowd to an upset victory over Class 1A, No. 2 Maranatha Christian behind junior guard Luke Johanson's 16 points. Jeremiah Hanson had 14 points for the Mustangs, whose record drops to 14-2 after their first loss in MCAA play.

• BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON 52, ROSEMOUNT 43: The Irish were down by only one point at halftime, but the Jaguars came out on top in this battle of South Suburban opponents. Matthew Rosen tallied 13 points for Jefferson, followed closely by Jacob Bodway's 12. Garrett Goetz scored 13 for Rosemount.

• HERITAGE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 78, NEW LIFE ACADEMY 56: Five players scored in the double figures for Heritage, which continues to punish MCAA competition. Zach Weld of Heritage led all scorers with 22 points. New Life's Conrad Engstrom had 14 points.

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

Kennedy Eagles stay hot in cold and flu season• BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY 85, BURNSVILLE 57: The flu bug claimed three Kennedy players this week, and Kenisha Bell remained on the sidelines because of a broken hand but, even with four players out, the Eagles had few problems handling their South Suburban opponent. Jade Martin scored 36 points and had six steals in Kennedy's 15th consecutive victory.

• DELASALLE 81, ST. ANTHONY 64: The Class 3A, No. 2 Islanders continued to roll with a one-sided victory over the Huskies. The Islanders were led by two double-double performances: Allina Starr tallied 16 points and 13 assists, and Tyseanna Johnson had 14 points and 10 rebounds. DeLaSalle has won 15 of its past 16 games.

• ROSEVILLE 60, WOODBURY 30: Ten different players scored for Roseville, which won its 17th in a row and remained unbeaten in Suburban East play. Jacqlyn Poss was the only Raider who reached double digits, scoring 15, even though her team doubled Woodbury's total on the scoreboard. Kristina White led the Royals with 14 points.
