Victory arrives late

Recap: Maple River led 28-27 at halftime, and the game remained tight throughout. The teams took turns taking the lead in the final two minutes, with New London-Spicer's Wade Powers scoring on a putback in the final seconds to give the Wildcats the one-point advantage.

Turning point: Powers blocked a shot under the basket at the buzzer.

The quote: "It was absolute chaos. It doesn't get any crazier than winning a state semifinal game with a last-second shot." -- New London-Spicer coach Matt Cordes

Noteworthy: New London-Spicer's only loss came on Dec. 15 against Cold Spring-Rocori. Maple River is represented by three generations of Andersons: senior guard Seth, coach Tim and assistant coach Jack.
