Hot shooters head to final

Recap: Transitions, the first charter school to reach the state tournament, led by 16 points in the first half and held off Cass Lake-Bena to advance to today's title game. Transitions was a model of consistent shooting, making 52 percent of its shots in each half.

Turning point: Cass Lake-Bena, last year's state runner-up, finished the first half on a 13-2 run and trailed by two as the second half began. But Transitions regained the momentum with a 10-2 spurt and led 62-52 with 12:23 remaining.

Noteworthy: Four Transitions players scored in double figures, led by Virgil Baker with 26. Kyle Noreen hit seven of 11 three-point shots and scored 23, Kavarian Williamson had 20 and Kevin Noreen had 15 points and 10 rebounds. ... Nate Salscheider led Cass Lake-Bena with 24 points, Joel Salscheider had 19 and Martin Wind had 14 (and 10 rebounds). ... Cass Lake-Bena shot 52 percent in the first half, 33 in the second half.
