Eagles soar with a strong finish

Recap: The Eagles trailed by five at halftime but outscored Chisholm 41-19 in the second half to advance to today's semifinals against Ellsworth. David Varriano led Norman County East with 18 points, getting 16 in the second half.

Turning point: Norman County East led 37-32 before holding Chisholm scoreless for more than seven minutes. By the time the Bluestreaks scored again, they trailed 49-34.

The quote: "We played hard on defense but we hardly played on offense." -- Chisholm coach Bob McDonald.

Noteworthy: The teams combined for 22 turnovers in the first half, after which Chisholm led 23-18. ... A three-pointer by Varriano put Norman County East in front for good, 28-27 with 14:16 to play. Taylor Bennefeld added 17 points for the Eagles and Alex Sather had 10. ... Chisholm was led by Trevor Simonson with 16 points, and Taylor Skoglund had a game-high 11 rebounds. ... The Bluestreaks shot only 32.7 percent to Norman County East's 44.4.
