Last update: March 26, 2008 - 11:25 PM

Free throw problems can't stop Hawks

Recap: The teams combined to make only 19 of 55 free throws. Three-pointers by Rodney Williams Jr. and Quincey Bethea put Cooper in front for good with 3:59 to play, and the Hawks missed nine of 12 from the line the rest of the way. On the other end, Burnsville made one of six down the stretch.

Turning point: The back-to-back threes by Williams and Bethea capped a run that brought Cooper back from an eight-point deficit at the 10-minute mark. The Hawks outscored Burnsville 20-10 the rest of the way ... despite all the missed free throws.

The quote: "That game was ours by 15 if we hit free throws." - Burnsville co-coach Robert Schweim.

Noteworthy: Burnsville made 11 of 31 from the line and Cooper hit eight of 24. Beginning with 1:55 to play and ending at the 12-second mark, Cooper missed nine in a row from the line and the Blaze missed five consecutive. ... Williams and Burnsville's Tarell Clark each scored 17 points; Clark made three of 17 free throws. No one else on either team attempted more than six. ... Cooper had 23 offensive rebounds and 28 on the defensive end. All those offensive rebounds helped the Hawks score 26 second-chance points.
