1. Crosby-Ironton will be looking to go wire-to-wire as the No. 1 team in the state. The Rangers (30-0) have only had three opponents stay within 10 points of them. They outscore their opposition 79.3-53.7.
2. After finishing third in Class 1A in 2007, St. Bernard's makes the leap to 2A. The Bulldogs are averaging over 80 points per game.
3. The Class 2A field is very deep. The eight teams in the quarterfinals have only lost 15 games -- three to Class 4A or 3A teams -- and six finished the regular season ranked in the Top 10.
4. Rockford's senior class is going out in style, with a second state tournament trip. Three members of the class (Nick Haugen, Nathan Maher and Luke Mernin) have eclipsed 1,000 career points.
5. The backcourt tandem of Tyler Grey and Tramel Barnes for Montevideo will provide plenty of entertainment. They have combined for nearly 3,000 career points.
6. New London-Spicer has veteran leadership and balance on its side. Six of its top seven scorers are seniors, and they average between 6.7 and 13.7 points per game.
7. So much for Braham's expected lull before its next state tournament trip. The Bombers' down year still produced a 26-4 record and fifth consecutive state tournament appearance.
8. Maple River has three generations of Andersons. Tim is the coach, Jack is an assistant coach and Seth is a senior guard. The Eagles are making their third consecutive appearance.
9. La Crescent is accomplishing a lot of firsts, including its first state tournament berth. Senior Ian Anderson, who owns the school record for career points and single-game scoring, might be the most underrated player in the tournament.
10. The New London-Spicer boys' program is trying to build as much tradition as the girls'. The boys' and girls' varsity, B squad and C squad teams have combined for a record of 146-14 this season.
