Kayla Tuthill is a senior midfielder on the Eastview girls' soccer team. She helped the Lightning to a state tournament appearance as a junior, and would like to conclude her career with another state tournament bid.

Here is a closer look at Tuthill:

The best movie I've seen in the last year? "The Vow."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "The Show Goes On" by Lupe Fiasco; "Yeah!" by Usher; "Somethin' 'Bout a Truck" by Kip Moore.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Hardworking, caring, competitive.

What are your three favorite apps? Twitter, Instagram, Temple Run.

Who do you like to follow the most on Twitter, and why? @Soccergrlprobs because I can relate to everything they tweet.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? My most memorable moment is defeating Eagan in the section championship to advance to state in the 2011 season. [Eastview lost to Centennial 1-0 in a shootout in the quarterfinals of the state tournament].

How did you get started playing soccer? My parents signed me up in kindergarten because I wanted to play like my cousins.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... extremely nervous but excited to train with the upperclassmen.

What did you work on in the offseason? Is there an offseason?

What is your favorite meal before a game? The night before I eat pasta at our pasta dinners (my favorite is chicken alfredo) and the day of [the game] I like to eat a Subway chicken breast sandwich.

To get focused for a game, I ... listen to my warmup playlist, get to the field early and visualize what I want to accomplish during the game.

I know I have an edge on an opponent when ... they come to the field unfocused and goof around throughout warmups.

Who is your school's biggest rival, and why? Apple Valley because our schools are in the same city and a lot of us went to middle school with them.

How did you balance school and sports during the year? I make sure to stay organized by using a planner and having all my events in the calendar in my phone. And lots of late nights of studying.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? I would change the scheduling, so the varsity girls and boys don't play back-to-back so we could watch more of each other's games.

Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The Minnesota Wild because my family has been fans since year one, and I love to watch hockey.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... a physical therapist.

Do you have a secret talent -- and if so, what is it? I am pretty crafty. I like to Puffy Paint water bottles and tie-dye.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? "Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard."
