Vikings soph leads way
Recap: Sophomore guard Jordyn Krekling didn't feel the pressure of the big stage. She scored 10 points in the first eight minutes and had exceeded her season average of 11.1 with five minutes left in the first half. She finished with 19 in the Vikings' first state tournament victory.
Turning point: Minnesota Valley Lutheran couldn't solve the Vikings' matchup zone defense in the first half. Hayfield forced 11 turnovers and limited the Chargers to one basket in the opening half in building a 23-6 lead.
The quote: "That's as well as we've played [defense]. To think, I was considering not playing it. We like to change defenses, but we were playing it so well, we stayed with it." -- Hayfield coach Fred Kindschy.
Noteworthy: Hayfield senior guard Leslie Wilson continues to build on her record as the girls' career leading scorer in school history. She had six points to bring her total to 1,377.
