Roseau 4, New Prague 1

Last update: February 20, 2008 - 10:50 PM

Rams show they belong

Recap: It might be Roseau's first trip to the state tournament, but the Rams played like they had been here before. Junior wing Mary Loken had a hat trick to lead the Rams, who skated to a calm and collected 4-1 victory over New Prague.

Turning point: With the score 3-1 in the third, star New Prague forward Kacy Ambroz led a rush towards Roseau's net that seemed destined to trim the Rams' lead. Goalie Chelsey Froseth was equal to the task, though, turning away four or five point-blank scoring chances. Ambroz skated away, holding her head in her hands.

The quote: "I was just aiming top shelf and trying to get the puck on net." -- A modest Loken, whose second and third goals found the very top corners of the cage.

Unsung standout: With New Prague on the power play in the third period, Rams defenseman Dawn Comstock blocked two shots, limping over to the bench after she deflected the second one.

Noteworthy: Roseau now meets Alexandria in the semifinals on Friday morning, a rematch of a 1-1 tie on Dec. 15th.
