Lakeville South's baseball team has counted heavily on righthanded starting pitcher Will Lundquist since his sophomore season. The senior enters his final year as the school's record-holder for career wins, most strikeouts in a game and lowest ERA for a season. He was an all-conference selection his sophomore and junior years.
Here is a closer look at Lundquist, who signed with Winona State last fall:
The best movie I've seen in the last year? "Act of Valor."
Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "The Scientist" by Coldplay; "Can't Tell Me Nothing" by Kanye West; "Someone Like You" by Adele.
Three words my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Entertaining, loyal, competitive.
How do you balance school and sports during the year? After practice, I come home, study and finish up most of my homework.
How did you get started playing baseball? When I was 3 to 4 years old, my dad would play catch with me in the front yard (and sometimes in the house). Since then, I've loved baseball.
At my first varsity practice, I felt ... nervous because I was the only sophomore and felt like I needed to prove myself.
What is your favorite pregame meal? Some type of pasta with a large glass of milk.
To get focused for a game, I ... take a nice Jacuzzi bubble bath and listen to music.
I know I have an edge on an opponent when ... a batter looks hesitant at the plate.
Who is your school's biggest rival, and why? Lakeville North, because we grew up playing together with most of them and it's fun to hold bragging rights over them.
What did you work on in the offseason? I worked on building my velocity by strengthening my legs and core.
What is your goal for this season? My ultimate goal is to make it to the state tournament and hopefully win some games on the big stage.
What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? When I set our school's record for most wins.
If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? I would change the bats from metal to wood because it is what the pros do.
When you have time off, what do you like to do? Hang out with my friends and play beach volleyball.
Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The Minnesota Twins, because I grew up watching them and I like their ballpark!
In 10 years, I hope I'm ... doing something I love.
Do you have a secret talent -- and if so, what is it? I can consistently sing off-tune to any tune that is played.
What is the best sports advice you ever received? It's not that you fail that matters, it's how you respond to failure.
