Krista Lundgren watched in awe as Elena Fruci of Mahtomedi was named Ms. Soccer four years ago. It was Lundgren's turn to stand center stage Sunday night.

"This was my dream since I saw the award as a freshman," the Lakeville South senior said after receiving the girls' Class AA award. "I looked up to Elena immediately. I thought she must be really good."

Lundgren was joined on the podium by the other three recipients: Megan Gallivan of Blake (girls' Class A), Keido Pour of St. Bernard's (boys' Class A) and Colin Monasterio of Wayzata (boys' Class AA).

"It was a shock," said Lundgren, who will play for the University of Wisconsin next year. "I was nervous to talk."

Rightfully so. She didn't have a lot of time to prepare for the evening after flying out of Arizona in the morning.

"I had a connecting flight in Denver and it was delayed because of snow," Lundgren said. "All I was thinking about was not missing the banquet."

Lundgren as well as Gallivan and Monasterio will be playing in the state tournament beginning Wednesday. Pour's squad was eliminated in the section semifinals.

The top seeds for the state tournament as selected by the coaches Sunday are Woodbury in girls' Class AA, Anoka in boys' Class AA and Benilde-St. Margaret's in both Class A fields.
