YOUR GUIDE TO THE TWIN CITIES
Devyn Alberts
Devyn Alberts is off to a fast start in her final season as a member of the Farmington girls' soccer team.
The senior midfielder/forward has five goals and two assists in the first three games. She also runs track for the Tigers.
Alberts will play Division I soccer for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Here is a closer look at Alberts:
• Best movie I've seen in the past year: "The Karate Kid."
• Three songs I never skip on my iPod are: "Just A Dream" by Nelly; "I'm A Star" by Jeremih; and any Taylor Swift song.
• Favorite pregame meal: Anything, I just like to eat! The other day it was pizza and cake.
• Do you have a secret talent - and if so, what is it? I can play the drums.
• Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me: Shy, spontaneous, dedicated.
• In your young life what has been your happiest non-sport moment? When I got to go work with my grandpa Ed at his family business job as a kid.
• How do you balance school and sports during the year? I usually have to get up early and do my homework in the mornings because I work out late at night or work at my job.
• You are in the process or just finished moving. What did you like and dislike about moving and how much junk did you finally get rid of and throw away? I disliked moving because we are now in Northfield, and it is far away from school and friends. We didn't really have to get rid of much. In fact, we got a new puppy just about a week ago!
• How did you get started playing sports? I started playing soccer at the age of 3 and never quit, so it just stuck with me. I started track because a lot of my friends were in it and I love to run. I gave it a try and it was a blast!
• At my first varsity practice, I felt... scared but I was excited to play with the older girls. I was friends with the older girls already, so it was nice to be more comfortable than other girls my age.
• If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? To not have practices on Fridays so we can go to football games earlier.
• To get focused for competition, I... have fun, laugh and joke around. I don't like to be too serious. I'm not a fan of warmups. I just like to get the game going and play.
• I know I have an edge on an opponent when ... everyone is playing really well and having fun.
• What is the best sports advice you ever received? I can't really recall any good advice from anyone in particular because all my family and friends are very encouraging and supportive. My trainer, Seamus Tritchler, taught me basically everything I know about soccer, and he is one of my biggest role models. He always pushed me to do my best, and he created the soccer player I am today.
• In 10 years, I hope I'm ... a successful physical therapist, married with two kids and a sports trainer.
