Shoreline habitat is critical for fish!
Most of the foodchain in lakes and streams begins at the shoreline. Existing natural shorelines should be protected and developed … read more shorelines should be restored to native vegetation. A good guideline used by the DNR shoreline habitat program is that at least 75% of a lakeshore property is restored to natives and 25% can be used for docks, beach, etc. If this was achieved statewide, the improvement in the state's fishery would be tremendous.
