Now that the rifle season is over, the muzzle loading hunt has begun. Reports are spotty this year but some nice deer were shot this year.
Walleyes and bluegills have been active on smaller lakes. There is anywhere from a skim to 8" of ice on many lakes. Portage and Twin have had the most traffic so far.
While the Walleye's are in a little lull check out the Northern, bass and crappie bite! Crawlers, leeches and Black Magic Jigs seem to be the trick. Check out 15'-20' depths in cabbage growth. The new 2014 hunting books are now available, pick one up to plan your dates.
Long Lake has a good evening bite on in about 10-15'. Try crawlers and Lindy rigs.
Fish Hook and Potato are producing nice fish but it is alittle tougher....good day, bad day type of thing.
Head to the Crow Wings for Northerns and Crappie, Portage is the same.
Big Mantrap has been giving up Muskys and Northerns both.
Water temps have now reached the high 60's! Seems like it happened over night. Reports of Walleyes on Long, Potato and Fish Hook. Grab a lindy rig and a few leeches. 10-15'.
Northerns have been active as well as the bass. Bait is really a mixed bag this year. Minnows seem to prevail.
Crappie and sunfish continue to bite well (late spring effect I guess). Jigs and worms are the trick!
The First Responders now have their Gun Raffle calendars out for the year. If interested give us a call at 218-732-4281. Fun raffle with a great cause.
Northerns 7-10' with a spinnnerbait! Walleye's 9-12' with jigs and minnows, Crappie and Sunfish in the pencil reeds, try a jig and worm.
The weekend again looks WONDERFUL in Northern MN. Very few and far between sprinkles. Gotta love the sun!
