Best walleye action reported on Long Lake, 24' using shiners, Northerns on Mantrap 14', light northern minnows for bait. Check out the Crow wings for panfish, 14' with waxies the bait of choice.
The fisherman continue to have success fishing even with the snow. There are reports of minimal flooding. Try the Crow Wings for panfish. Fish Hook and Potato for walleyes and Long for Northerns. Rainbows are the favorite minnow for the eyes with suckers minnows following for Northern.
Several lakes have been active. We've heard from Big Mantrap, Fish Hook, Potato, Long, Toad are all doing well. Some folks are driving out now but caution should be used.
Reports are shaping up on the local lakes. Fish Hook had about 6" of ice, the eyes were in about 23' with fatheads as the bait of choice. Portage reports of 10", Long 7" and Potato 6". We received very little snow on Tues which is great for the ice conditions. Houses are starting to move out. So far 4 wheelers are the mode of travel.
The lakes are freezing over very quickly. We received very little snow so this weekend people should be moving around on some of the lakes. Big Sand froze over Sunday. Fish Hook has be froze for about a week. People are starting to wonder out on Portage and Pickeral. Caution is best on early ice but all indications for a good ice fishing season are in place. The American Legion will again be holding the community fishing derby on Feb 6th. Tickets are now available for Christmas giving.
