    The winner of the Nikonians 2012 Wildlife Forum February Challenge is Bill Marchel of Fort Ripley, MN. The monthly theme was “Camouflaged Birds, Hidden in Plain Sight." Marchel won with his remarkable image of a well-camouflaged great gray owl perched against the trunk of a white cedar tree.  Nikonians is the largest site in the world for Nikon camera users, spanning 140 countries.  The site garners over 10 million page views per month and more than 40,000 photographers visit the site daily.

Keep that camera ready while afield.  I was able to capture this image of a whitetail buck bounding through shallow water while on a bass fishing excursion.  Note the angler in a boat in the background.

Newly hatched common loon chicks are riding their parent's back all across Minnesota.  Loons usually lay just two eggs.
