Not ony did you screw up...
but you posted it on the internet. Part of your responsibility as an outdoorsman is to enjoy nature without changing it. That fox had … read more obviously been fed before or had at least scavanged from campsites, so your not totally at fault. The best thing you could have done for her would have been to give her a good fright. Making critters comfortable around humans is asking for trouble, more trouble for the fox than humans. She's now more likely to approach vehicles, and she'll be less shy about areas where vehicles are present, including highways. Who's to say the next time she approaches someone their 5yr old girl tries to feed it, ending up with an innocent but painfull bite on the tip of the finger. Now that fox needs to be killed and tested for rabies because the parents don't want to subject their little girl to shots. So the game warden sets up a bait pile to lure the little fox in, but in the course of a hour 3 or 4 fox show up, each one will have to be tested. Obviously I'm exagerating the situation. The chances that that fox will last long enough to bite someone or get hit by a car are slim, considering the abundance of Coyotes now present in the state. That's my thoughts...
