Anoka's Federal Premium Ammunition officially launched Prairie Storm at SHOT Show last week.

Scatter Gunning from SHOT Show 2010

I spent the majority of last week at the Shooting Hunting Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show in Las Vegas. SHOT Show is the industry's largest business-to-business event. Every gun, gear, apparel, dog, and device manufacturer with a connection to the outdoors is there. Here are a few of my impressions from SHOT Show 2010.

Federal Officially Launches Prairie Storm: Piggybacking on the technology of their cutting edge duck load Black Cloud, Federal Premium Ammunition announced Prairie Storm as their new pheasant load. Complete with Guitar Hero packaging, Federal has also branded Prairie Storm with the Pheasants Forever logo and will donate a portion of every box sold back to our habitat efforts. I was able to "sample" two boxes of Prairie Storm last season and am confident it will help transform many pheasant hunters into "rock stars" next autumn.

Conservation Minded at Columbia: I own a bunch of Columbia gear; my winter coat, snow pants, polos, jeans, and even shoes. They make good stuff, and I feel even better knowing they care about conservation too. Last Tuesday at SHOT, they sold a few hundred camo jackets that retailed for $160 to show attendees for $40, which they then donated to Ducks Unlimited. On Wednesday, the Columbia folks sold blaze orange vests and a cool blaze orange water resistant fleece jacket with all proceeds being donated to Pheasants Forever.

Outdoor Channel Clearly in the Lead: While other networks carry hunting and fishing programming, it has become clear that Outdoor Channel has grabbed the leadership position in the industry. I'll continue to get my NHL fix on VS, but OC is the outdoors television destination. They also throw the SHOT Show's best party with their Golden Moose Awards spectacular.

"How Many Facebook Friends Does Pheasants Forever Have?" That question came up in every single meeting I had at SHOT Show. From Remington Arms to GunBroker.com, everyone wants you to be their friend, fan, follower, and group member. Become a Facebook Fan of Pheasants Forever Today!

The Game Bird List: I made a new friend at SHOT this year and his name is John Long. Not only is John a genuinely nice guy, but he's got a cool idea that he's just launched with his new website allowing you to track your personal hunting success of all North America's game birds.

Pasties at Stormy Kromer: It's becoming something of a SHOT Show tradition to join my fine Yooper brethren at the Stormy Kromer booth for a pastie and beer.

2010 Celebrity Sightings: Chipper Jones, Kristy Lee Cook, and Lou Ferrigno. I may have seen Miranda Lambert, but it was not a confirmed sighting.

Celebrity Sightings from SHOT Shows past: Wade Boggs, Barry Bonds, Ted Nugent, Matt Williams, Major Dad, R. Lee Ermey, Will Clark, Chipper Jones, Adam LaRoche, Terri Clark, and Travis Tritt.
