ACT (Angler Conservation Team) Now

Angler Conservation Team (ACT) is a network of leisure anglers who volunteer to protect and enhance fish and wildlife habitats.  ACT members help other anglers, communities and natural resource managers with grassroots projects such as building and placing fish habitats in lakes, planting native aquatic vegetation, and ensuring angler access to waterways.

I was able to work on the Whitefish Lake Shoreline Restoration ACT project last summer.

Whitefish Lake Shoreline Restoration
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the Midwest Glacial Lakes Partnership, along with the Minnesota Conservation Corp and the Minnesota BASS Federation Nation, are partnering to provide shoreline restoration for Whitefish Lake. They need your help planting native perennials, bushes and trees along the eroding bank of Whitefish Lake, Crow Wing County, Minn.

It lasted one day and I was able to dig my hands in and plant vegetation into the sandy, eroding bank.  It was enjoyable to meet Minnesota DNR officials, lakeshore owner/family/relatives, lake association, and other local citizens.  Hopefully in a couple years I can be on Whitefish and point to that shoreline and see a plethora of natural vegetation.  See ttp://www.midwestglaciallakes.org "Partners in Action" for the Brainerd news video.
