And It All Came Down to One Fish...

Another hot and humid August day greeted the 31 teams for the final Big Bass Bonanza event for 2010 and the site for the day was Sauk Lake. Going into the event I had heard that fishing was tough, but big bass roamed this lake. So going into the day I stayed positive and knew that a good bite could come at any time.

Tough bite was an understatement! At the end of the day only eight of the 31 teams brought in an eight fish limit, but two bass over 6 lb's were brought in! My partner and I were able to scrap together 5 fish for 10.04, which put us in 18th place. This was very disappointing and left us very nervous on if we would stay in the top ten and make the year end TOC.

After a long wait, we found out that we dropped down to 11th place in the standings and just one point out of the TOC. This was very disappointing, but my partner and I fished hard all season long and despite being in tough spots several time we always kept our heads down and kept our lines wet.

To catch our bass today, my partner used a jig and I used a 3/16 oz. Picasso Shakedown Jig around vegetation and rip rap. I again relied on my Wright & McGill Tessera Shaky Head rod, coupled with a Quantum spinning reel spooled with 10 lb. Seaguar Inviz X Fluorocarbon line.

I want to thank Big Bass Bonanza for putting on a great tournament circuit and I wish the top ten teams the best of luck in the TOC. The good news in this blog is that despite not fishing yesterdays BASS Weekend Series event I only dropped down to 26th in the year end standings and with one event left on the Mississippi River I am hopeful to do well and finish in the top 40 and qualify for the regional tournament.
