What: Minnesota's regular firearms deer season opens Saturday.
Hours: Half-hour before sunrise to a half-hour after sunset.
Prospects: Hunters will kill fewer deer than last year, in part because the DNR says it has succeeded in deliberately reducing deer densities in some areas and has tightened antlerless permit availability, and in part because the DNR issued too many antlerless permits in some areas in recent years. DNR officials expect hunters to kill around 200,000 deer this season, down from about 222,000 last year. Weekend temperatures are expected to be mild, with partly sunny skies.
Did you know? The average Minnesota deer hunter has been hunting deer for 25 years, according to past DNR surveys.
