Akeel Meghjee, 16, of Plymouth, caught his first-ever walleye while fishing with friends on Lake of the Woods last month. Using a jig and frozen shiner, he caught this 28-incher, above, just north of Long Point Resort in 26 feet of water.

Best of the weekend

Khyber Villella, a 9-year-old from Blaine, caught this 13-inch crappie on Stevens Bay of Lake of the Woods using an orange weighted jig with a green mister twister tail and a pencil bobber.

Caught by surprise

Carter Christie, a 7-year-old from Minnetonka, caught this bass from the dock at Totem Lodge on Lake of the Woods.
