Shades of the Civilian Conservation Corps, 70 years ago: Superior National Forest officials say they will spend $557,000 in federal stimulus money to upgrade trails throughout the forest in Minnesota's Arrowhead region.

Among the sites are the Kekekabic Trail, Whiteface Campground Hiking Trail, Franklin Lake ATV Trail and Cascade River Ski Trail.

The work will be done through a partnership with Minnesota Conservation Corps. Work will not begin until around June 1.

Young adults will be hired to do the trail work as part of the AmeriCorps program. Applications are available at www.conservationcorps.org.
