The Northwest Sportshow and National Wild Turkey Federation are sponsoring a state turkey- calling competition at 1 p.m. Sunday at the show.

Three separate contests will be held: Open, Junior (ages 12-17) and Owl Hooting. Entry fee for the Open division is $25, with $10 fees required in the other two contests. In each case, 50 percent of entry fees will go to the winner, 35 percent to second place and 15 percent to third.

Minnesota residents and non-residents are eligible. All contestants must be NWTF members.

DNR meeting Thursday Do you think the prohibition of over-water goose hunting in parts of the state during the early honker season should be discontinued? Department of Natural Resources managers will discuss that and other proposals at a public meeting from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the agency's headquarters, 500 Lafayette Rd., St. Paul. Also to be discussed is the possibility of an early deer hunt in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and changes to some sales of turkey hunting licenses.

DNR meetings also are planned from 7-9 p.m. March 19 at the People's Cooperative, 3935 Hwy. 14 E., Rochester, and 7-9 p.m. March 26 at the DNR in New Ulm, 261 Minnesota Hwy. 15 S., New Ulm. A meeting also will be held in northeastern Minnesota.
