Though another summer of fishing is history, memories of the fish caught — or lost — will be cherished for years to come. Next year, long-held angling traditions will be renewed. Until then, on this, our final fishing page of the season, we share some of the catches that made summer 2014 one to remember. Starting next week, our Wednesday Outdoors page will return with coverage of hunting, conservation, natural resources, outdoor recreation — and fishing. Thanks to the hundreds of people who submitted photos and fish tales this season.

NO NET, NO PROBLEM

Sully Scherber, 11, of Buffalo caught this 24-inch walleye with a leech on a Lindy rig in 18 feet of water at his Grandpa Glen's on Star Lake near Dent, Minn. At first Sully thought he had a big northern, then discovered it was a lunker walleye. He also discovered his little sisters had removed the landing net from the boat.

AN ARMFUL

Jessica Ann Tollander, 12, of Shoreview caught and released this 47-inch muskie last month while fishing with her dad on Lake of the Woods. Dad said he missed the muskie with the net on his first attempt, but then was able to land the fish.
PANFISH BONANZA

Isabella Maliske, 7, of Mandan, N.D., went fishing for her first time with her grandpa and grandma and a fishing guide to a Bemidji-area lake and hit pay dirt with panfish. Isabella caught 32 fish in four hours. Her best was this trophy 10-inch bluegill.

SUBURBAN BASS

Reid Brettschneider, 12, of Lake- ville, finds plenty of good fishing right in town. He caught and released this 20-inch largemouth bass this summer.

FIRST MUSKIE

Kelsey Johnson of Bloomington recently caught this 52-inch muskie on Lake Waconia. It was her first time fishing for muskies, and she caught the monster on only her eighth cast.

THAT'S NOT A BASS!

Tucker Naugle, 16, of Stillwater was fishing for smallmouth bass with a jig, leech and 6-pound test line when this 43-inch northern hit. After a long battle and with the drag screaming, the fish was landed, photographed and released.

WEEKEND WINNER

Erin King, 18, of New Hope caught her biggest fish yet, this 30-inch northern, on a Lindy rig and a minnow on George Lake. She outfished her dad and a friend to land the biggest fish of the weekend.

A BORN ANGLER

Lucas Nelson, 7, of Minneapolis always has loved fishing, and he finally got to take a real fishing trip with his family to Lake of the Woods. He caught numerous walleyes, including this 21-inch beauty, jigging with minnows.

BIGGEST EVER

Jack Klassen, 13, of Minneapolis caught and released this 50-inch muskie on a lake in the Alexandria area. "The fishing had been slow, and I was losing hope when all of a sudden, the fish smacked my lure," Jack said. It was his 19th muskie, and the biggest yet.
