“We want to give hunters a hands-on experience firing non-lead ammunition. The idea is you can come watch other people shoot. Then you’ll get a chance to put your own rifle on the line, to shoot with your own bullets and the copper bullets we provide, on our dime. You’re going to shoot into water traps so you can go down and compare how the bullets fragment when they hit their targets. Because copper doesn’t fragment the way lead fragments. And as a consumer of venison, those fragments are a primary concern.”

Dr. Brian Hiller, wildlife specialist, Bemidji State University, and chair of the wildlife toxicology working group for the Wildlife Society.

The Minnesota Chapter of The Wildlife Society hosts a free copper bullet demonstration this Sunday at the Wealthwood Rod & Gun Club in Aitkin, Minn. More information: www.wildlife.org/minnesota.
