Big Stone Lake: Most anglers have shifted their attention from catching walleyes to catching perch using night crawlers along parts of the lake such as Manhattan Reef, Goose Isle and Grape Vine Reef. A few walleyes have been caught in the Mallard Point area using a bottom bouncer/spinner/crawler combination. White and largemouth bass are also being caught.
Chisago City area: Anglers are enjoying good walleye action during the evenings or early morning hours on South Center as well as Big and Little Green Lakes at 12 to 15 feet using Lindy Rigs with leeches or spinner baits. Bass are doing real well on Chisago, Green and North Center Lakes in the weedlines using Scum Frog lures or other weedless jigs. Panfish action has been best on Sunrise Lake.
Cook area: With water levels now lower, the walleye action has improved on the Little Fork, Rice and Sturgeon rivers, using slip bobbers with leeches. Crane and Kabetogema lakes are also producing good walleye action. Pelican Lake is giving up good bass and bluegill action.
Detroit Lakes area: Walleyes are biting leeches and crawlers at about 18 to 26 feet on most of the area lakes near mid-lake structures. Some anglers are doing using crank baits at 20 to 30 feet for walleyes. Bass are taking jigs and plastic baits at 11 to 16 feet on deep weed edges. Sunfish are active on all area lakes.
Lake Vermilion: The east half of Lake Vermilion, particularly Frazier Bay, has produced much better walleye action than the west half recently, at about 15 feet near the weed edges using slip bobbers with night crawlers or leeches. Bass action has been excellent, using spinner baits or leeches on bobbers in the weeds. Northern action has been slow.
Leech Lake: Anglers are heading out to the humps and main-lake bars Big Muskie, Horseshoe and Little Muskie to catch walleyes using six-foot Lindy Rigs tipped with leeches or crawlers at about 18 to 22 feet. Walleyes can also be caught in shallower weeds using night crawlers. Good perch action can be found on Hunter’s Hump at 14 to 24 feet.
