Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, May 31, 8:30-11:30 a.m.

2 Flatwater kayaking essentials

Hyland Lake Park Reserve, May 31, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

Learn to kayak with this hands-on lesson covering form and strokes. The 9 a.m. session is geared toward women. The 1 p.m. session is for everyone. $50. Ages 14-plus. Reservation required; 763-559-6700. More info: www.threeriversparks.org.

3 Blanding’s turtle rescue

Whitewater State Park, May 31, 12:30-4 p.m.

Assist a population of rare Blanding’s turtles as they cross a dangerous road en route to their nesting area. This popular family-friendly event starts at the park’s visitor center for training before everyone caravans to the rescue site. Registration required; 1-507-932-3007, ext. 226. 4 Return of the peregrine falcon

Whitewater State Park, May 31, 2-3 p.m.

Meet at the nature store parking lot for a guided walk to see peregrine falcons at their nesting site. After nearly a half-century absence, peregrine falcons have returned to nest on the cliffs of the park. More information: 1-507-932-3007 or www.mndnr.gov/ptcalendar.

5 GreenFit Club

Hyland Lake Park Reserve, starting June 2, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
