I ran into a buddy at the bait shop that was lamenting he couldn't catch crappies in the summertime. I explained how crappies move out into deeper water and suspend, which makes them tough to find, but they can be located.
Locate some deep water off a big weedy shoreline flat and criss-cross over the top, keeping one eye glued to the sonar. When you spot a pod of fish, it's either crappies or walleyes. Drop a one-eighth ounce jig tipped with a minnow or two-inch twister tail into those fish. A slip-bobber can be helpful to pinpoint the right depth. With this technique you can catch crappies all summer long.
