Cleary Lake Regional Park, Sept. 21, 9-11:30 a.m. Learn the basics of bird identification, plus how to attract various bird species with seeds and feeders. The event concludes with a naturalist-led walk through the park, an opportunity for participants to practice identifying birds. $5. Ages 6-plus. More information at www.threeriversparks.org.

2 Get-ready-for-fall hike Interstate State Park, Sept. 21, 10-11 a.m.

Walk with a naturalist as she shares tips and tricks used by the park’s wildlife population to prepare for the cold season. Meet at the Campground Clubhouse on the south end of the park. 651-465-5711 or www.mndnr.gov.

3 Slacklining 101 French Regional Park, Sept. 21, 1-2:30 p.m., Learn the popular new sport of slacklining, where participants build balance and strength by walking a 2-inch-wide climbing rope, usually tied between two trees. It’s kind of like tightrope walking but within safe distance of the ground. $5. Reservation required. Call 763-559-6700 or www.threeriversparks.org.

4 Nature photography Afton State Park, Sept. 22, 10-11:30 a.m. This naturalist-led workshop is designed for novice photographers who want to know more about nature while learning to capture it with their digital cameras. 651-231-6968 or www.mndnr.gov.

5 Family fishing primer

Lake Minnetonka Regional Park, Sept. 22, 1-3 p.m. Learn about the fish in our local lakes, how to prepare your equipment, which bait to use, even what to do with your catch. All equipment provided.
