  • Updated: July 23, 2013 - 11:02 PM

Annandale area: Walleyes are hitting on spinner baits with night crawlers or leeches on Clearwater and Cedar lakes. Northern action is good on Pleasant and Sylvia lakes using spoons or crankbaits. For bass, anglers are going on Clearwater, Cedar, Sugar, Sylvia and Pleasant lakes using sucker minnows or worms on spinner baits near weed edges.

Bemidji area: The hottest lakes in the area for walleyes have been Lake Winnibigoshish, Lake Bemidji and Lake Plantagenet, using leeches or night crawlers. On Lake Bemidji, anglers are working shoreline breaks for the best walleye action. Anglers are catching northerns on most area lakes, trolling with spoons or spinners. Big Bass Lake and Balm Lake have produced good bass action using plastic baits near weed lines.

Mankato area: Anglers are catching walleyes and catfish on the Minnesota River using night crawlers or fathead minnows for walleyes and bigger sucker minnows for catfish. Lake Washington also has produced some walleye action at about 10 to 20 feet, trolling crankbaits. Sunfish and crappies are taking waxworms or crappie minnows at about 9 feet on Lake Washington.

Lake Vermilion: The Frazier Bay and Niles Point area has produced the best walleye fishing using leeches and slip bobbers at about 9 to 15 feet near weed edges. Anglers have caught some muskies in the 50- to 53-inch range on the west end of the lake using smaller lures. The best bass and bluegill action has been on the rock piles using leeches with slip bobbers at 8 to 12 feet.

Rainy Lake: Walleyes are hitting on leeches or minnows around the submerged reefs at about 30 feet. Smallmouth bass are being caught along rocky shorelines on the south side of the lake. Crappie action has been good on the west end of Black Bay, and northerns are being caught near weed edges of bays.
