Muskie egg harvest

  • Updated: May 9, 2013 - 6:30 PM

Muskie are stocked in Minnesota lakes each year. The eggs are being harvested this week by a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources crew, who've been waiting for just the right water temperature for the female fish to be ripe with eggs. In a three-day egg-take, the fisheries folks will strip 900,000 eggs from females, fertilize them with semen from males, and ship them to state hatcheries.
