• VHS doesn't affect humans and hasn't been found in Minnesota waters. It seems to affect different fish species differently. For example, it has killed smallmouth bass, but not rock bass, though the later can be a carrier.
• To prevent the spread of VHS or other invasive species, the DNR recommends anglers not move live fish or water between lakes. Livewells and bait containers should be drained before leaving a lake. And boats and trailers should be power-washed, especially after leaving known VHS-infected waters.
• Wisconsin DNR officials will go before the state's Natural Resource Board today to seek permanent rules for VHS restrictions. The agency has been operating under temporary rules.
