Millie Horkley of Windom tells this story: "I had an experience of a lifetime during a trip to Lake of the Woods. I reeled in my first lunker, which measured 29 inches and weighed 9 1/2 pounds. The next day I landed a 30-inch walleye that weighed 10 1/2 pounds. Both fish were caught using an orange spinner with a night crawler near Garden Island. We also caught a mix of 'eater' size walleyes and slot fish."
FIRST WALLEYE Lauren Ingrassia, 9, of
Maple Grove, caught this 25-inch walleye fishing Lake Mille Lacs for the first time, using a jig and leech in about 25 feet of water. "Daddy, my rod is getting heavy," she told her dad, Lee, (helping her hold the fish.) "She calmly reeled in while getting instructions shouted at her by her uncle, cousin, sister, mom and me,'' he said.
