STATE FISHING REPORT

Chisago City area: Bass have been biting all around area lakes. Anglers are having success using crankbaits at the edges of the weedlines and by casting jigworms off the dock and along weedlines. Bass are being caught on Chisago Lake and South Lindstrom at the 12- to 14-foot weedlines. Sunrise Lake has been producing lots of panfish, and the pike and bass are also biting. Walleyes are being caught on Green Lake in 18 to 24 feet of water near Girl Scout Camp and Lindberg's Point.

Glenwood area: The warmer weather has heated up the crappie bite. Lake Minnewaska's crappie population is on the upswing, with nice 10- to 14-inch fish being caught on Flu-Flu jigs, tubes and crappie minnows. Good spots are Torgy's Bay along the shore to Lakeside Ballroom in 4 to 7 feet of water. Sunnies are also biting on Minnewaska.

Kabetogama-Namakan: Mayflies have emerged from the lake bottoms in the past couple of weeks, and anglers have found success by sticking to shallower waters. Most walleye anglers are fishing between 22 and 28 feet with rigs or deeper near or on the reefs with a jig and minnow. On Kabetogama, center reef has come alive as well as rock piles like Jug, Potato and down to Chase Island. Northern pike are being caught throughout the lake, especially near the weed edges with spinnerbaits.

Hackensack area: The walleye bite has improved, with great fishing being reported on Leech, Winnibigoshish, Woman, Baby and Birch lakes. Nightcrawlers and leeches have been working well. Live-bait rigs pulled slowly have been scoring fish. It has been a great season for panfish on area lakes. Crappies have been hanging in 8 to 14 feet of water and are being pulled in during low-light conditions. Big bass are hanging deep along the weed edges, with average-size bass up in the surface weeds.
