As told by Nathan Hoffman "I had a hard muskie follow that morning, but couldn't get it to hit. Later that day, I hauled the family out again to see if it would take another look. My 5-year-old son, Lachlan, grabbed a spare rod and was bobbing one of my muskie lures up and down while I was casting. We hit the exact same spot where I had the follow and he screamed out, "I got a fish." I was expecting a snag when this muskie came rolling up. I let him fight it for about 30 seconds. Then it started thrashing, so I helped him boat the fish. We measured it, took a few pictures and released it. Lachlan already is talking about the 50-inch muskie he is going to catch next.''

ALL SMILES Tyler Maas, 11, of Mankato, caught this 24.5-inch walleye on Lake Mille Lacs on a bobber and a leech. "One happy angler and one happy fish that got safely returned to the water!'' said Tyler's dad, Todd.

BIG MUSKIE Jamaal Baird of Deer River caught and released this behemoth 57-inch muskie recently on the Mississippi River near Lake Winnibigoshish. It had a 28-inch girth. "I was testing out a rod and reel that was handed down to me by my Uncle Brian,'' he said. "This rod hasn't touched the water in 10-plus years. After five casts, it passed the test.''
