State fishing report

Big Stone Lake: Schmidt's Landing Resort says the walleye bite has been excellent the past couple of weeks around the islands south to Ortonville as well as the Shady and Hartford Beach areas, in about 8-9 feet using bottom bouncers with spinners and crawlers. Nice-sized perch, blue gills and white bass also are being caught.

East Metro: Bald Eagle has been the best area lake for walleyes outside of Cigar Island using fathead minnows or medium leeches. Bass are active on White Bear Lake and Bald Eagle at shallow depths along weedlines using plastic worms. Panfish action has slowed down on most area lakes.

Faribault area: Anglers are heading out on Cannon and Roberts Lakes to catch walleyes in about 8-10 feet using mostly jigs with leeches. Some nice-sized northerns and bass are caught on Cedar or Shields. For northerns, anglers are using sucker minnows while for bass, anglers are using plastic baits or spinners.

Leech Lake: According to Reed's Sporting Goods, most live-bait options are producing walleyes off Sand Point and south of Cedar Point in 15-20 feet. The main-lake rocks and the area between First and Second Duck points is also a good walleye spot at depths ranging from 10-20 feet. Crappies remain active in the reeds of Sucker Bay, while bass and bluegills are moving to the shorelines of Shingobee and Sucker bays.

Willmar area: Anglers are enjoying good walleye action on Green Lake, Lake Andrew, Diamond Lake, Long Lake, Big Kandiyohi Lake and Eagle Lake. Sunfish and smallmouth bass are being caught on lakes such as Solomon, Norway Lake, Ringo Lake, and Willmar and Foot Lake. Bass and northerns are being caught on many of the area lakes.
