STATE FISHING REPORT

Big Stone Lake: According to Schmidt's Landing, the best area to catch walleyes has been along Hartford Beach across to Mallard Pointe using bottom bouncers, spinners and crawlers during daytime and leeches instead of nightcrawlers during the evening, with a slow presentation. There have also been reports of a few northern, white bass and perch being caught.

Ely area: Babes Bait & Tackle Shop reports that both walleye action and northern pike have been active on lakes such Basswood, Fall, Birch, White Iron and Shagawa Lakes. Walleyes are at about 12-18 feet using Lindy rigs or jigs with minnows or leech combos. Anglers are pulling crank baits or larger sucker minnows on the same area lakes for northerns along weed edges or shoreline points. Crappies and sunnies are active on the beds using smaller worms or small minnows at shallower depths.

Lake of the Woods: According to Borderview Lodge, anglers are catching nice-sized walleyes at 26-29 feet near the Lighthouse gap and along the south shore using a jig and a minnow. Others are having success using a spinner with a crawler or minnow at 13-16 feet.

Leech Lake: The Federal Dam area, Pelican Island area, First Duck Point, and Little Stoney Point have been best areas for walleye action using a a jig and shiner at about 6-12 feet. A few crappies are being caught now coming from the reeds and weedlines in 8-12 feet.

Mankato area: Most of the good walleye action has been Lake Washington around Grassy Island or Bakers Bay using jigs with minnows or leeches or Lindy rigs with leeches at about 8-12 feet. Most area lakes are producing some northern action along weedlines using spinner baits or spoons and crappie action at shallow depths.
