Pond work to close a Fort Snelling State Park trail

The state Department of Natural Resources is warning visitors to Fort Snelling State Park that construction soon will close a trail along the west side of Snelling Lake.
The Metropolitan Airports Commission is dredging and rebuilding two storm water treatment ponds that receive runoff from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Work on the project is expected to begin in the next week and run into November, with major work occurring before Memorial Day and after Labor Day to minimize the effect on park users.
Visitors are asked to watch for trucks and other heavy equipment that may be on the move.
Besides the trail closure, the road into the park may be closed for one day while large pipes are installed. New runway navigational lights also will be added in the park.
