FACTS ABOUT WALK-INS

• Officials don't know how many people hunted the 9,000 acres of walk-in land last fall, but based on anecdotal reports, the lands were well-used.

• Also, the DNR's walk-in website got 44,000 hits, the detailed walk-in maps by county received 21,000 viewers and nearly 13,000 maps were downloaded. The DNR also distributed 1,000 paper atlases.

• To read more about Minnesota's walk-in access program, see maps and take a user survey, see startribune.com/a1090.

• The DNR is signing up landowners now for the program. Those interested can contact their local Soil and Water Conservation District office.
