The body of a 50-year-old man was pulled from a lake early Monday in west-central Minnesota, where he had been fishing, authorities said.

Searchers recovered the body of Charles Krauth, of Wheaton, from a hole in the ice about 2:30 a.m., said Traverse County Sheriff Brion Plautz. Krauth was fishing on Mud Lake, just west of Wheaton.

Near the hole was Krauth's dog and a 4-wheeler, Plautz said.

Ice thickness in the area was about an inch, the sheriff said.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources urges a minimum ice thickness of 4 inches for ice fishing.
