Getting licenses online and by phone

Last update: August 18, 2007 - 12:02 PM

• You can buy hunting and fishing licenses — as well as renew boat, snowmobile, ATV and off-highway-vehicle registrations — online 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at the DNR's website, www.dnr.state.mn.us.

• You can also buy hunting and fishing licenses via a special phone line, 1-888-665-4236. Both the online and phone systems charge a $3.50 convenience fee.

• Or, of course, you can buy your licenses at any of about 1,800 Electronic Licensing System (ELS) outlets. The list of outlets is on the DNR's website under "licenses."

• A vendor hired by the state — Central Bank in Missouri — operates the ELS outlets and the online and phone licensing systems. It does that work for 20 other states, including Wisconsin. A subcontractor, Automated License Systems of Nashville, handles Minnesota's phone line.
