Lynx gameday

6 P.M. VS. NEW YORK • TARGET CENTER • fsn, 106.1-fm

Lynx update: After going 6-6 in August, the Lynx feel they have turned a corner with back-to-back home wins against Phoenix and Indiana, both playoff teams. Now the Lynx get a rematch against the Liberty, which handed Minnesota an 81-68 loss in New York Aug. 28. The Lynx (21-10) enter the game a half-game behind the Liberty for the best record in the WNBA, something that could be important should both reach the WNBA Finals. F Rebekkah Brunson and C Sylvia Fowls are both coming off double-doubles vs. Indiana. And the other three starters also were in double figures in scoring against the Fever. The Lynx are without G Seimone Augustus (mid-foot sprain) and G Lindsay Whalen (ankle bursitis and an Achilles strain). F Maya Moore, who took a Sylvia Fowles elbow to the face during Friday's victory over Indiana, is probable.

Liberty update: New York (21-9) had its three-game winning streak ended, at home, in a one-sided Chicago victory Thursday night. The Liberty, which had averaged nearly 80 points per game while winning nine of 11 games, scored just 60 in the 22-point loss to the Sky. New York outscored the Lynx 40-28 in the paint the one time they met this season, and held the Lynx to just two fast-break points and to just 37.3 percent shooting. G Epiphanny Prince had 22 points and F Tina Charles 18 points and 11 rebounds that night. The Liberty is first in the league in rebounding percentage, second in bench scoring and third in points scored in the paint. The Liberty's 10-5 road record is best in the league. The Liberty lost rookie guard Brittany Boyd — a top backup — to a broken wrist in the Chicago game. She will be out at least a month.
