Maya Moore wanted to honor her namesake Friday night at Target Center.
Moore, the Lynx star forward, was named after author and poet Maya Angelou, who died Wednesday. Angelou was a favorite of Moore's mother, Kathryn. And Moore came to love Angelou's writing as well.
So Friday Moore sent out this pregame tweet:
Moore also wrote Angelou's name and her message of thanks on her sneakers.
"My mom knew about her growing up and was inspired by her," said Moore, whose favorite Angelou work is "Letters to My Daughter,'' a collection of essays.
