Lynx reserve Peters to have arthroscopic knee surgery

The Lynx, so healthy while winning the WNBA title last season, are already dealing with significant injury concerns after one week of training camp.

Top reserve post player Devereaux Peters will have arthroscopic surgery to clean up a cartilage issue in her left knee in the next couple of days. A timeline for her return has not been established, but it's likely she would miss at least the first two weeks of the regular season.

This comes a week after Monica Wright, had a similar procedure on her left knee. That means the team will likely be without two of its top seven players when the season begins.

"This is pretty important," coach Cheryl Reeve said before Monday's preseason game against the Australian national team at Target Center."We have some things we have to figure out. We have some options. We'll be very aware of the waiver wire. We don't know that {our roster] is completely set yet."

At guard Tan White, a veteran free agent signed during the off season, figures to pick up most of Wright's minutes. But in the post? Barring a roster move, Reeve is looking at having whichever rookie emerges at the position to at least get some minutes right away.

Brazilian center Damiris Dantas -- who will start tonight's game -- has been the most impressive rookie post player in camp, with Waltiea Rolle making a push of late. It could be the Lynx are forced to give Dantas a bigger role that she would otherwise get in her first season.

"This isn't necessarily what we want to do with her right away," Reeve said.

Meanwhile:

--Maya Moore was the only regular starter expected to play tonight. Center Janel McCarville would get minutes only if the rest of the team's bigs got in foul trouble.

--Veteran forward Rebekkah Brunson isn't expected to join the team until after the WNBA preseason tournament in Orlando over the weekend.
